The legendary British rock band celebrate their 50th-anniversary with new album
The Golden Age of Rock ‘n’ Roll
Mott the Hoople occupies a unique place in the annals of international rock music. Oozing style, attitude and unpredictability, the band recorded a peerless legacy of songs combining homage, honesty and killer hooks. As Mott’s focal point, lead singer Ian Hunter was also one of the toughest and most inventive writers of the early Seventies.
The Golden Age of Rock ‘n’ Roll showcases Mott the Hoople’s amazing CBS Records repertoire including the Bowie-penned No.3 anthem ‘All the Young Dudes’ which gave the band their mainstream break before they released the masterly Mott. The new 2LP set also includes the hit singles ‘Honaloochie Boogie’ (No.12), ‘All The Way From Memphis’ (No.10), ‘Roll Away The Stone’ (No.8) and ‘The Golden Age of Rock ‘n’ Roll’, as well as the superb ‘Marionette’ – a pre-Bohemian Rhapsody mini-opera described by Ian Hunter as a nervous breakdown on record.
This essential 50th-anniversary double vinyl album is presented in gatefold packaging complete with printed inner bags featuring original artwork for the classic LPs All The Young Dudes, Mott and The Hoople, plus liner notes written by Mott the Hoople and Ian Hunter biographer Campbell Devine.

“VERY FLASH – VERY RUDE – VERY MUCH ’73 ROCK ‘N’ ROLL!”
The legendary band’s full live set from 1973 as a double album, featuring six tracks on vinyl for the first time, it also includes the rare live ‘Single Medley’ as a bonus track.
Live at Hammersmith 1973 is probably the best live recording in Mott the Hoople’s archive. The group was riding on the crest of a wave at the time, parading their hit singles “All the Young Dudes” and “Roll Away the Stone”, and promoting their critically acclaimed Top 10 album, MOTT.
PRE-ORDER LIVE AT HAMMERSMITH 1973
Mott the Hoople played two shows at the Hammersmith Odeon on 14 December 1973 and the second set became famous in rock folklore when theatre staff and stewards grappled with invading fans, while Mott played on and sought to defy the venue’s “curfew.” The British press raved about “The Battle of Hammersmith” and gave the show front-page headlines including – ‘MOTT RIOT’ and ‘ROCK ’N’ ROLL IS HERE TO STAY’! “Sensational; swashbuckling; pandemonium; punches and imprecations thrown on a crowded stage” – SOUNDS review of the Hoople’s Hammersmith extravaganza certainly helped to encapsulate the atmosphere, adrenaline and aggro attached to one of rock music’s most incredible shows.
Released following acclaimed 2018 and 2019 Mott reunion concerts, this vinyl captures the fire and brimstone of the band’s 1973 show and their battling finale, as they conclude a memorable night with a scorching version of “Walkin’ with a Mountain”. Featuring sparkling renditions of “Sweet Jane”, “Sucker” and Mott’s memorable, fifteen-minute “Deadly Medley”, the passion, the power and the glory are all here – six of the nine cuts appearing on vinyl for the first time.
This unique version of Mott the Hoople Live at Hammersmith 1973 is presented as a 2LP set on 180gm heavyweight vinyl in a gatefold sleeve featuring photos from the time, printed inner bags with liner notes written by MtH authority Campbell Devine and an 84x56cm 1973 UK Tour replica poster.
